Well it has certainly been a minute.

people need to stop leaving intersex people out of conversations about reproductive justice.

intersex people are routinely sterilized at birth, and the choice of whether or not we want to have children is taken from us before we even can reach an age where we would be ready to make that choice.

intersex people and their families are lied to about surgeries that have no medical benefit, because doctors are so worried about making sure that they uphold the binary system and create people who look “normal” instead of preserving our right to consent to what happens to our bodies.

intersex people are often denied access to fertility treatment, or have many barriers to accessing infertility treatment because it is believed that we will not want to have children, or that we should not want to have children.

yet, intersex issues are rarely, if ever, brought up in the context of reproductive rights, despite the fact that bodily autonomy and reproductive justice is a huge issue for the intersex community.

if you’re fighting for reproductive justice, please consider fighting for our rights to choose as well.

Intersex people are also often told that they need to do the most invasive (and most expensive) fertility treatments, without being given a chance for less invasive options, or a full consultation and workup with a fertility team.

Intersex fertility discussions should be individual, and more informed consent behind all fertility options should be considered, just like for perisex people.

I’ve seen intersex people get told their only option was IVF, only to get pregnant without major intervention later because they learned more about their own bodies.

“Stop scrolling and please help me spread the word, because if I’ve landed on your page you’re most likely either a black woman or someone who cares about black women and the simple phrase I’m about to share could help save a black woman’s life.

Doctors are to black women what police officers are to black men. That may seem controversial but I believe it to be true and I speak from personal experience.

If you’ve seen this TikTok you know that a 2016 study showed that 50% of medical students and residents thought that black people couldn’t feel pain the same as white people.

And we learned from this video that because of a 1999 study, to this day, there’s a black correction factor for the creatinin levels in black people’s kidneys, meaning we’re less likely to recieve a kidney transplant if needed.

So if you go to a doctor, feel you aren’t getting proper treatment or they refuse the treatment you’ve requested, say to them the following:

I will need you to document on record that you are refusing the treatment (or medicine) I’ve requested, and the reason you are doing so.”

This works. I have used it in other situations. If medical staff have to document and take responsibility and be on the hook legally for doing shady shit they behave much differently.

If you weren’t already going to spread this advice because black women are at risk, then spread it because it’s applicable to everyone else as well, including you reading this.

But particularly women, and especially black women.

So this is the level of disrespect and abuse the police were on yesterday. Members of the Columbus PD now mace people and straight steal their legs to immobilize them. I’m so sickened by not just the horrible video but by some people trying to justify this. “Maybe he used his prosthetics as a weapon.” Do you know how expensive that shit is and that nobody’s gonna be flinging them around at anyone even cops?! And how are you gonna attack someone while unbalanced on one leg if you take one off to beat on an officer?! Like use your fucking head and stop making excuses for the violent bastards on every police force. They’re out there retaliating against peaceful protestors for almost a month now knowing damn well they’re surrounded by phone cameras and actual news cameras, and some of you idiots still don’t get it. THEY ARE NOT THE GOOD GUYS. STOP PROTECTING THEIR IMAGE AS THE GOOD GUYS.
